The kind of friends you want to have and keep!

A plumber came by the house recently to give us a quote on some remodeling work that we’re about to do and for one reason or another, the discussion turned to financial matters. Turns out that the plumber had a friend who turned him on to saving and investing when they were each only 15!

Improving our chances of hitting short-term financial goals.

My wife and I have recently made efforts to become better organized around more of our short-term financial goals. While we use Quicken to show us our overall financial picture, it seemed to get pretty complex to keep track of some of these things in there. Opened our second CD in our emergency fund CD ladder

I’ve just opened the second of six CDs in our emergency fund CD ladder. We went with the 6-month 3.00% APY at ING Direct. I’m not sure this is the best deal we could have gotten, but I think sticking to the right date was more important than a few extra basis points of interest. Not to mention the ease of interacting with the ING website and our other accounts there.

What’s the impact of inflation on a yield comparison decision?

While doing a bit of recent PF blog reading, I came across a statement on GetRichSlick that made me realize I had forgotten to mention one important aspect, given the current economic climate, about a recent decision my wife and I had come to regarding paying off our auto loan early. I’m talking about the idea that “the debt will simply inflate itself away”.
